blog re-do

image from here
the image has nothing to do with this post..but really how could i resist a shot with miniature jumby's (my dog) squeeeeeze

blog re-design..come on everyone is doing it!!..this little blog has had no creative love..and i am wanting it to have a new look..just like how i change my bedding all the time or change up the pillows on the couch..i am tired of staring at the same ole thing..

i have some questions for you:
-have sponsers or not?..i don't know how i feel about this one..i am not doing this to make any money but i would like to promote friends businesses ...hmmmm
-i want my images WAYYYY bigger, i have fiddled around with the html and wound up with a scrambled mess!
-anyone know any blog re-designers who are good and not too pricey?

How exciting! I think having sponsors is a lovely idea and it wouldn't compromise your vision one bit because you'll just keep doing what you do (aka posting loveliness). I would suggest my designer, but he's starting grad school at Georgetown this fall (in Arab Studies...not fair, genius...) and I don't know if he's taking on new projects. So excited to see what you come up with! Oh and poke around all of your favorite blogs and make a list of the things you love about their layout. I found it saved time and money to go to the designer with a clear vision of exactly what I wanted. Yay for makeovers! xx

My vote is for no sponsors. You can always post about your friend's products whenever need be! Of course, it is a totally personal decision.
And, big pictures are always a good thing!
Good luck on the redesign, lady :)

Fabulous K is a great blog designer who is reasonable. She has re-styled several of my friends' blogs and they look fantastic. Kelly from Fabulous K creative changes hers up once a week and it always looks amazing.

I did some perusing of google and found an easy way to show larger images, but you have to upload them to the exact size you want them and then fiddle around in the HTML a little. A bit more work, but so far with blogger it is the only way I have found- I can send details on exactly how to do it if you want, just let me know :)
Good Luck- Makeovers are SO fun!

Don't make your images too big! It makes me so unhappy to have to scroll to see a whole picture. For the time being, until you find the perfect blog designer, switch your template to Minima Stretch..I think that's what the template is called or something like that...bigger posting column. I understand wanting a new look, but no matter what the look, your content is ultimately what counts and yours is one of my favorites...it's all in the editing I think. xovxov, cm

oo I was always wondering how to get larger images. Sometimes when I crop photo's a certain way they just appear bigger when set at the large setting. interestingggg right?! Some of the comments are helpful. I TO wish for a size upward of XL. Google can you hear us?!? PS I love the simple look of blogs, too much clutter can deter me away! But that's just me.

I would really recommend Jen Thomas.

She did our blog house-universe.com which I love, and also Camp Comfort! http://campcomfort.blogspot.com/

I'm not sure if she is taking on projects as she recently had a little girl and teaches, does freelance AND works on our blog but she is one of the most amazing designers I know. Plus she just won a web-visionary award! If you can snatch some of her time you should!

we're working on a redesign of ours as we speak--so fun! As far as the pics go--you'll need to get into the "guts" of your blog and adjust a few numbers and when you post pics you can do the same with html numbers (super easy). The picture part is easy and I can send you the directions but if you're going for a whole new look--your designer can tweak it for you as well.

I wrote a whole series about this in my newly redesigned blog! http://www.alessandracave.com/archives/category/resources/ I worked with Jo Klima from the Darling Tree and she is awesome! Good luck! xo

I've thought about the "sponsors" thing....and I'm like you...this is not intended as a money making enterprise but as a conduit for ideas, information, etc...So, thus far, I have allowed OKL on, but asked for them to give a discount to readers, no advertising money for me. I feel good when I can pass something good along to others. I like the clean look on blogs. I love yours....but whatever you come up with I'm sure will be great!!! xo Elizabeth
