yummm

When it comes to cooking..the majority of the time i need inspiration..i can't read a single cookbook unless it has pretty pictures (hence Ina Garten..is my fav) the other night at one of the Rikshaw Trunk Shows, Elizabeth came in and introduced herself and told me she had a blog so i told her to send me a link...its called Sophisticated Pie it is filled with delicious images and easy to understand recipes for the cook-challenged, that would be me.

this would be a cauliflower fennel and parmesan cake...savory delish !
grilled red leaf salad with blood oranges and pistachios
vegetable pot pie...umm how delish and cozy does this look!
i adore her organized meatless monday recipes.

i also bought some of these unbelievable cc made caramels at Rustic..beautifully packaged and so yummm...they are doing caramel demo's in the bay area at bi-rite, marin country mart, and dean and deluca...perfect valentines day treat!

which one are you?

we are keeping it short and simple this week...
are you a sweet or savory gal?
and i am only letting you pick one!
think of it this way..what if chocolate and cake and caramel were to be extinct..or what if cheese, french fries and pizza vanished?
which one would make you more crushed?

hi, aren't i the most darling cake i ever did see..
this image makes my mouth water...i am savory all the way baby! in fact my whole family is a savory family..maybe your tastebuds are genetic? who's with me?!

summer entertaining

all images from here and domino

katie lee..had me at brown sugared bacon as an appetizer...my kind of girl! A gal who got her cooking skills from her grandmother in west virginia..eating seasonal produce and meat from the land..but with a southern food flair!
i loved some of her tips for entertaining..and from the looks of her house, designed by Nate Berkus, you could probably eat cereal and feel special..

entertaining tips:
1. create a playlist..something upbeat for cocktails and something mellow for dinner..
2. properly equip your guest bathroom: fresh hand towels, scented candle, soap, (a discreetly placed plunger will help avoid any embarrassing situations!)
3. set the table the night before
4. have fun..its a party for crying out loud!

ny livin

so here is the deal...i have sort of become a food snob after living in the bay area for a good chunk of my life, in my opinion its unbeatable..is it weird that i won't eat sushi unless i am in CA?

here is why i heart ny (some food and other randomness):

convenience: every evening after a long hot day of walking and standing on my feet all day..i could just jump out on the street and viola..red mango frozen yogurt deliciousness with fresh toppings and not all that bad for me! (not in bay area)

people watching: i wouldn't call it staring like they do in l.a. but just noticing..at cafe habana, eating yummy cuban food, while checking out all the interesting people and i love the way the waitress kept calling me "momma"...."hi momma, what can i get for you? have a great day momma"

image from here

pedicures: ok ny has got us bay area mani-pedi's beat. they know how to rub the knots out, use yummy salt scrub, and i actually did pay extra for longer massage..they have it down.

great service here: at kingswood, a restaurant in the west village, delish australian menu and the cute australian accent waiter --was a sweet treat!

fearless style: everyone has their own take on trend style ect..i was looking around and this one gal literally was rockin a pair of orthopedic sandals and looked completely cool. i was inspired.

kombucha

i would like to say "yes I am a believer" to mary, miro and liz who all have been raving for awhile the wonderfully splendid drink Kombucha..with its aquired vinegar taste, it truly gives me so much energy, with a clear head everyday around 4:00ish, i love its effervescenty taste. and if you have a hang-over, guzzle one down and you will feel like you can at least deal with the day.(frannie)
my fav's so far are divine grape and strawberry serenity.
kombucha benefits the following:
digestion, immune system, metabolism, appetite control--(this is really true), weight control, liver functions, body alkalinity, anti aging, healthy skin and hair....ALL NATURALLY..what the heck give it a try!
read more here and the story of how kombucha directly helped G.T. Dave's mother beat breast cancer

tea time

"friends don't let friends go to starbucks" ..i head to,
teapod, an organic tea bar, usually after my pilates..nice life right? i think so, its my pick me up!
what i love about this specific iced tea i get,  is that its so delicious it meets all my sweet cravings for the day and its good for you! hojicha de la creme: roasted green tea leaves and stems with vanilla blossoms, iced with no sweetners..
plus the decor of the space is so zen-like  in sunny & hot san anselmo, i could sit in there for hours..
