gift guide: sacramento street

Caitlin from Sacramento Street here! Can you believe the holidays are beginning? I certainly can't. When Catherine asked me to guest blog about my favorite gifts to give this season, I thought to myself "holy cow! I haven't even begun shopping or thinking about shopping" - well Rikshaw Design readers, Catherine got me to start shopping and here is my current list. Enjoy!

Stocking Stuffer: I have to admit this one isn't very creative but it's my go-to calendar every single year. I count down the days until this Linda & Harriett calendar is available and I buy up a few for family members stockings. If you are a paperaholic, like myself, than you will love this!

Hostess Gifts: I'm always searching for unique gifts to bring to holiday parties for the host - I can't bring myself to bring another bottle of wine or champagne. This year I'm introducing it to everyone it's my new favorite liqueur - St. Germain made out of Elderflower. Pour some in a glass with a little champagne and some Pellegrino and you are good to go - it's like heaven. Another fabulous gift is a S'mores kit. It's fun and unique!

Friends: My go-to gift for friends are Antipast socks. I love picking out a different color and pattern that represent their style. Antipast comes out with hundreds of patterned socks every season - its a fun gift to give because who buys themselves a nice expensive pair of socks? Another gift I'm going to give a few friends is this super cute elephant tape dispenser from iomoi. I want one for my own desk.

Husband: My husband is a hard man to shop for because he never really wants anything, but this year he's finally given me a hint - the Flip camera. I can't wait to have this on trips and at events. One other item I'm getting Eric is this Jack Spade toiletry bag. He usually puts his toiletries in a ziplock and I think it's time for him to upgrade.

Hope this helps with your holiday shopping - I need to get out shopping to check things off my list. Happy Holidays!

caitlin, what a chic list! i Will try that liqueur, will check out those socks, and can't go wrong with a flip camera! thanks for participating!

gift guide: pink monkey

I’m so excited Catherine #1 remembered me after my epic blogging hiatus and #2 asked me to participate again, as I have got to get myself in gift gear for the holidays. So, in following somewhat similar suit from last year, here’s my list:

1. The Meet the Parents/ Housewarming/ VIP Hostess Gift

Booze is generally the easier and most well received option, but if you want to make non-wino impression (especially before the wine comes out), a John Derian paperweight would make an excellent hostess gift. There are tons to choose from, but here’s my favorite:

2. The Girlfriend “Gift that Gives Back” Gift
I recently heard this incredible story on women in the Congo on NPR, and one woman’s mission to make a difference. This difference I’m usually interested in making after the holidays is my pants size, so here’s an idea that combines giving back, motivation, getting moving and your girlfriends—and eliminates another Secret Santa exchange.

Sign your sister group up for a Run for Congo Women race and sponsor a sister in the Congo. For more information, click here.

3. The White Elephant Gift

Everyone inevitably gets invited to the bad sweater/ white elephant party and you never want to be the one with the lame gift. I recently heard a ridiculous story about this drink (probably would be more appropriately called drank) and before it gets banned by the FDA, wrap up a can of this for your next exchange. Totally absurd, only $2.50. One can seems to be enough.

4. Stocking Stuffer Gifts
I love just about everything on the Cerulean website, and here are a few favorites (all under $100.00):

5. The Take-Me-There Gift

With fragrance notes described as: exotic Turkish tea, amber, blue iris and black orchid, I’d love to unwrap this and a Delta ticket.

Happy holidays!

thanks liz! and glad you back blogging, we've missed you!
i need to check out Cerulean website!

gift guide: going starfishing

I was thrilled to be invited back this year for Rikshaw's Gift Guide!
I don't know if it has been New England's perfect Summer followed by this gorgeous Fall, but I am still in denial that it is nearly December!
That being said, I am quite behind in my shopping...
Decorating always gets me in the mood though, and this first Christmas in our new home has me super excited to make it extra special.
My list is a little pre-Christmas round up of what I'm eyeing and buying to add sparkle to our place!

Photobucket

* this pussy willow wreath is divine and much more glamorous than the traditional greens *
* a silver milk bone ornament in honor of nellie *
* candles... candles... candles... you can never have enough! *
* oooh, wrapping! my favorite part of the holidays! christmas trees on kraft paper or a red wood grain- anything tied with velvet ribbon! *
* a fun runner for the entryway *
*add some sparkle to the couch*

Thanks so much for including me, Catherine!
I'm officially ready to cue the carols and trim the tree...
xoxo

gift guide: Pretty Mommy

I'm a huge holiday procrastinator...seriously one of those girls you see aimlessly wandering the mall at 3pm Christmas Eve looking stressed and frazzled...so when Catherine asked me for my top five gifts I was actually going to give I panicked a little - sure ask me for the gifts I'd like to receive - no problemo...but having ideas for other people before Thanksgiving - Yikes! So, hopefully this will be the start of a new holiday tradition - planning ahead...

For my little munchkin - a new Tamar Mogendorff piece to add to her collection - aren't the lambs sweet?

For Ma Mere - a Clare Vivier clutch to throw in the La Trop I gave her for her b-day...(it's good to have a daughter with a shop, no?)

For my Grammy - who is always cold - even in Austin, Tx - a cozy Matta Nadissa Shawl in turquoise to match her eyes...
Dream Collective Oval Beaded Earrings for all my favorite gal pals...

and for my nieces - and fellow J Crew addicts - a little something sweet & sparkly from crewcuts...

*******************************
thanks Michelle! She has a wonderful blog, Pretty Mommy, and many of the items she listed above you can buy right from her perfectly edited shop!...2nd time the Claire V bags have appeared..is it a sign? I think I need one!

gift guide: flourish design+style

Thanks Catherine for having me share a few of the items on my holiday giving list!

It's a tradition for me to buy ornaments for the special ladies in my life every christmas.. it's so much fun picking out one to suit them-

I love to gift a little personal luxe as well. Something like darling slippers or girly gloves-

It's our family tradition to give + get new jammies on Christmas eve... Kevin and I pick out our own and find something fun for the girls.

One of my favorite holiday things is growing paper whites, there is something so wonderful about the exposed bulbs and gorgeous greenery. What a lovely hostess gift!

Our treat for our girls this year is going to be their own itouch. They love to play barbie dress up games and listen to music on my iphone, so I think they will be over the moon with their own app loaded touches :)

Wishes for a wonderful holiday season to all the lovely rikshaw design readers, xoxo Sarah

cocoa cashmere slippers, kate spade gloves, kids jammies- huckleberry lane, anthropolgie + apple

thanks so much sarah, of flourish design + style! I love your traditions and such thoughtful gift ideas!! your girls are gonna go bonkers with their new i-touches!! stay as warm as you can during your cold canadian winter!!

gift guide: the zhush

Hi! Sue from The Zhush, here. I 'm thrilled that Catherine asked me to submit my ideas about gift giving. Aside from my new online shop, zhush, I have so many favorite stores that I love to browse for great gifts. In fact, giving gifts is one of my favorite parts of the Holiday season.

1. I just love the contemporary colors in these chic Jonathan Adler agendas. I'm happy to say they are available at zhush, and will probably be part of all my teacher gifts this year!

2. For hostess gifts, I already know that I will be giving these amazing new candles from Diane James Home. I don't know what I love more, the packaging by PVE, or the candles' heavenly signature scent.

3. Since I'm always looking for fashionable ways to stay warm, I love the idea of giving these adorable "blackberry" gloves. They are so clever, I wish I thought of them! I spotted these over at Saks.com.

4. It's become a bit of a tradition in my family to give and to receive Peppermint Bark candy. We love the cookies as well...not to mention the fabulous retro packaging. These are available at William Sonoma.

5. Last but not least, my husband is usually the hardest person to shop for. I think these great looking pewter boxes from Match would make a very smart desk accessory. I found a lot to choose from over at Barneys.

Thanks for having me over today Catherine...I loved sharing all my gift ideas here!

********************************
thanks for participating Sue! men are the worst aren't they?! love that pewter box and will be heading to your shop to check out all your goodies..

gift guide: ruby press

I was so excited that Catherine asked me to contribute to this series because I love everything about gift-giving- the shopping, finding the perfect gift, the wrapping, and most of all, the giving! I certainly hope that the people I'm buying these gifts for don't read this blog {!!}, so just in case they do, I won't mention who they are for...

At $12 a pop, these John Derian mirrored buttons make adorable stocking stuffers. {These same designs also come as button pins, for only $6 each, and are perfect for adorning my gift wrap.}

I suppose I can tell you who THIS gift is for, as he can't read! It's for my 8 week old son Sammy...without the flower of course! {Love this shop on Etsy- the knit hats can be customized- you pick the colors, etc.}

Encyclopedia of the Exquisite, An Anecdotal History of Elegant Delights- is a perfect gift for my girlfriend who appreciates the beauty in life as much as I do. {And it's written by a sweet former editor I knew back in the day...}

Champagne is on the top of my list for the girlfriends who have everything...and Veuve Clicquot is my go-to bubbly every time. {Maybe I think it's such a great gift because it's something I always love receiving!}

And I love stuffing everyone's stocking with candies...and I adore Hammond's lollipops and candy canes.

And of course, I always give gifts from our clients' collections. Every year. After all, they wouldn't be our clients if I didn't ADORE them!

Thanks so much Catherine! xxM

{My images are from here, here, here, here, and here.}

thanks melissa (of ruby press) for taking the time to participate, when you are so busy snugglin with your little sammy! always love your chic picks.
